Going Out - Daniel Avery (Phantasy) & JG Wilkes (Optimo) at the Berkeley Suite

Daniel Avery (Phantasy) makes a welcome return to Glasgow's Berkeley Suite tonight (Fri 17th May) alongside Glasgow favourite and one half of Optimo JG Wilkes. Avery is unique among the current crop: a rising producer embraced by the same icons whose own work inspired him to seek that warm up slot playing ESG and Neu! records in Bournemouth all those years ago. Alkan in particular recognized Avery's passion for sounds originating away from the dancefloor, something that was instrumental in Avery signing for Phantasy, a collective Daniel now regards "very much as home." The critically acclaimed "Need Electric" and "Water Jump" EPs followed, showcasing a depth and progression alluded to in his earlier works for Throne Of Blood, Relish and Tigersushi. Much more music for Phantasy is promised in 2013.
Dan is joined behind the decks tonight in the Berkeley Suite by JG Wilkes from Glasgow's finest DJ duo Optimo, who needs no introduction. This looks like a night not to be missed, and if the last one is anything to go by his will be outstanding!

 THE BERKELEY SUITE WELCOMES BACK!!!

Cycle Chic

A favourite book with our customers and ourselves at Fat Buddha Store has to be the book Cycle Chic from Thames & Hudson. No longer is it just pedal and push, there's some preening involved in cycling these days too, as testified by the author Mikael Colville-Andersen. This new book catalogues one man's journey to find the most stylish cyclists.
From gritty messengers to tweed-sporting bankers, from Pashley princesses to high-tech roadies, cycle chic is everywhere you look. No one is more attuned to the explosion of these new trends than Mikael Colville-Andersen, who launched the first cycling fashion blog, ‘Copenhagen Cycle Chic’, more than five years ago. The blog went viral, and there are now ‘cycle chic’ blogs from São Paulo to Mexico City, from Tokyo to Vancouver, and from New York to Budapest.

Published in a compact format targeted at the style-conscious and urban tribes of all stripes, hundreds of images in this ingenious collection curated by Colville-Andersen present the most charismatic combinations of individual style and practical function and demonstrate how far cycle wear has moved on beyond lycra.
The book is available in store now at Fat Buddha Store and sits alongside our great range of books covering Art, Fashion, Photographs, Graphic Design, Architecture and much, much more. You can browse the collection here.

Kaws - "Ohhh..." Exhibition at KaiKai Kiki Gallery

One of our favourite artists here at Fat Buddha Store is New York City's Kaws. We posted recently about his 16 foot Companion sculpture arriving at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station to be put on show. His new exhibition has opened at the KaiKai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo. The Brooklyn artist presents an entire new body of canvas work, including many different sized paintings. His trademark characters and styles are mixed in new ways, resulting in an exciting new body of work, while staying true to what he is best known for. You can check out some pics below.
The show will continue to run until the 29th May and includes all of the artwork shown above. We have very limited stock of Medicom's Kaw's Bus Stop 1 and Kaw's Bus Stop 2 still available here at Fat Buddha Store alongside more from our great range of Vinyl toys. You can check them out here.

Music Monday - Chance The Rapper!

This weeks Music Monday comes courtesy of Chicagoan hip hop artist Chance the Rapper!

With the release of his newest mixtape 'Acid Rap', Chance has recently drawn comparisons to the likes of Kanye West and Andre 300, so he must be doing something right!

Chance the Rapper, or Chancelor Bennett to give him his full name, started to show a passion for music from an early age, forming the group 'Instrumentality' with a friend in his freshman year of high school.

By his senior year of high school in 2012, as Chance puts it, his teachers weren't supportive of his dreams to make it in music, ultimately leading to a 10 day suspension which was a blessing in disguise as he used the time to record his first mixtape under the 'Chance the Rapper' moniker, ingeniously titled '10 Day'.

'10 Day' brought Chance into many peoples consciousness, with the mixtape being downloaded over 20,000 times on Dat Piff, but its his newest mixtape 'Acid Rap' where he really gets a chance to flex his creative muscles.

With a healthy respect for the old school throughout the tape, with samples from seminal hip hop groups Slum Village and A Tribe Called Quest, 'Acid Rap' clearly derives sounds from various influences and blends a variety of styles, which perfectly compliment Chance's unique flow.

With production from Jake One, Blended Babies and J.U.S.T.I.C.E league alongside guest spots from Action Bronson, Childish Gambino, Ab-Soul and even Twista, there's something for everyone, so if you haven't already, get familiar with Chance, he's definitely gonna be one to watch!

Hottie of the Week - Kate Hudson !!!

The first time i came across Kate Hudson was way back, she was starring in 'Almost Famous' as a Rolling Stone journo, for this part won a Golden Globe, she was also nominated for a Best supporting Actress.
She was particularly great in 'You, Me & Dupree', a film that is always worth a watch.

Kate married Chris Robinson from the rock band 'The Black Crowes' back in 2000, amazingly they lasted unitl 2006, and shes been dating Mus'os since, most notabley one Matthew Bellamy from Muse, apparently rockers are too much work.

You cna Catch Kate Hudson in the cinema just now, starring in the pretty good film 'The Reluctant Fumdamentalist'

Another Hottie of the Week, this one is for the more mature customer, this more mature customer, may like to peruse some nice smart shoes in store or online.
