AT-AT Day Afternoon

I know Leslie would never dream of replacing Maisie, his sidekick and the much loved Fat Buddha shop dog. But if he is looking to add another member to his pet family, I think this would be it...

I also came across some nice bits of artwork created from them...

I might try and find an AT-AT and knock out a custom!

The guys over at rebel8 throwing up a new piece on their walls of R8HQ

Check out all the tees we have in our Rebel 8 section!

Stencil Graffiti

Had another couple of people in the shop today asking about stencil graffiti, so here's some more information for anyone looking to find out more about it. Check out the links below and all of the basics can be found along with some inspirational artwork from some of stencil graffiti's finest...

First thing to do is get hold of a copy of Stencil Graffiti by Tristan Manco, lots of great work from all over the globe. The accompanying site has some great links too.

If you want to practice some of the basics, grab a stencil from, start off with some simple silhouettes to get you used to cutting the stencils and spraying without getting the dreaded overspray! (little tip: a light dusting of spray mount on the back of your stencil will do the trick)

If your looking to get some interaction with some of the best stencil artists from around the world, head on over to the Stencil Revolution forum, it's quite a tight group that frequent their forum, but show respect and be polite and you can get some great advice. (another tip: che guevara images don't go down too well, they prefer some originality)

Once you've got the basics down and you have developed some nice blisters on your cutting finger, it's time to up your game....layers! You probably won't get this right first, second or even third time, but if you're persistent, the final results can be phenomenal! Here's some of the best, doing what they do best.

On the left we have Shephard Fairey (AKA Obey Giant) and Logan Hicks (Workhorse Visuals) holding it down on the right.

and here's a couple of videos with the aforementioned artists...

(keep an eye on the clock in the Logan Hicks video - time consuming, you're damn right!)

Here at Fat Buddha we have a full range of paints and art supplies for anyone painting for the first time, or those who cut stencils until their fingers bleed! We can also supply large orders for community groups, youth clubs and schools.

My Favourite Things Pt.5 Calum G.

Calum G has been working in the shop for so long it is believed that he now bleeds Montana spray paint and his hair now grows into the shape of a New Era hat if he doesn't get it cut on a regular basis! These facts may only be urban legends or what we tell new members of staff, but he is a commited member of the team and loves everything in the shop - we got him to narrow it down to a few things....

Calum is always up for some chat, especially if you want to talk paint, pens or graffiti. You can catch him in the shop most weekends guarding the paint!

Music Monday.

Probably the best music selection in the shop.

Summer Snowfall

SNO!zone Scotland presents the 3rd annual Summer Snowfall this July 3rd in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow.

We have a lot of skaters and snowboarding customers and lets face it... This is going to be one of the coolest, most fun events in Glasgow this summer!

They sculp 100 tonnes of real snow into a large slope smack in the middle of Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park. The throw some top, professional snowboarders and skiers down it, throwing their best tricks. Action and family fun is promised with the following features: -
  • 100 tonnes of real snow
  • Freestyle demos
  • DJ's Snowtube Sledging (I don't know what this is but I want to do it!)
  • Snowboard Simulators
Just to top it all off, they have a licensed bar for the older attendees. The event is on from 1pm until about 6pm but the bar will stay open a little later.

As a little bonus, they guys at SNO!zone have dropped in some vouchers to our shop, Fat Buddha Store. Buy 1 hour, get 1 free in SNO!zone at the Xscape. So if your into skiing or snowboarding and want some free hours come in and buy something and we will give you a voucher or 2 (while they last!)

Don't miss this guys, it's going to be a great event.

Secret Wars Glasgow

Secret Wars returns to Glasgow tonight continuing the Euro League Battle - some of Glasgow's finest artists will be taking on the best that Warsaw have to offer. The event is nearing the end of the group stages and sees Glasgow sitting in second place behind the popular team from Malmo. In third place are the Bristol team (which counts legendary artist Inkie amongst it's ranks) and tonight's competition Warsaw holding up the table, so will be out to make a point tonight I'm sure!

The Scottish scene has been pulling out all the stops to get a great pool of talent to draw from (no pun intended) and some of the artists already representing Glasgow have included Rekor, Smug, Elph and Conzo.

So if you're out and about tonight, get yourself down to the SubClub on Jamaica Street and support our troops!

I've had a couple of people in the shop over the past couple of days asking about stencil graffiti and have been showing them the work of Glasgow stencil artist, friend of Fat Buddha and all round good guy, Klingatron.

Klingatron is quite well known on the internet and has exhibited all over the place - on his own, in group shows and with Xynthetic Collective. If you haven't seen his work, check out his website gallery and be suitably impressed by the many hours he spends cutting up his stencils!

Here are a couple of his most recognised works...

and here's a nice little vid of the man himself at work...

We've got a couple of his sweats and beanies (with the bear graphic) in the shop.

Breo Watches - Just Arrived Instore

Right up we have the NEW watch from the guys at Breo, the all new Breo Venture, all 9 colours are instore and will be online next week.

My Favourite Things Pt. 4 - Fraser

While most of us wait until payday to spend what we've earned, Fraser can't wait that long....he is spending as he unpacks the deliveries!

Fraser is right into his fashion and style, making the rest of us look soooo last month! If you need to know what the next hot fashion to drop will be...he's your man!

Anyway, here's some of the things he'll be buying before you....

Frasers favourites are...
*Where the Wild Things Are Bearbrick (online soon)

Apart from his trusty Vans, Fraser is the one who rocks the beanies (even in summer!)

Go Skateboarding Day!

June 21st is Go Skateboarding Day, with events happening all over the globe. You can find out what events are taking place near you at the Go Skateboarding Day site.

You can buy skate decks online or in Fat Buddha if you don't already have one.

If anyone makes it along to one of the events, send some pics in and we'll get them on the blog.....

Hidden in Glasgow!

I've had a few people in the shop over the past couple of weeks who didn't know we were here - one guy even passes by on the way to work every day and it's the first time he's came in today!

For those of you who know you're way round Glasgow, we're at the bottom end of Bath Street (just round from Buchanan Galleries) and for any visitors we are just off the Golden 'Z' Shopping area. Head to the top of Buchanan Street (pedestrian precinct) and turn left just before the Concert Hall - we are along at the next junction - corner of West Nile Street and Bath Street (downstairs from Rumours restaurant).

Here we are on Google Street View!

or use the map below to find your way here...

If you're rubbish at reading maps, call us on 0141 332 2208 and we'll guide you.

We're open every day of the year - apart from Christmas Day (because Leslie is like a big kid and wants to open his pressies and get stuck into his Christmas Dinner).

Monday: 10am - 6pm
Tuesday: 10am - 6pm
Wednesday: 10am - 6pm
Thursday: 10am - 7pm
Friday: 10am - 6pm
Saturday: 10am - 6pm
Sunday: 11am - 6pm

We're quite a nice bunch that work in here and we'll always do our best to help you out with any queries you may have on any of our products. Next time you're in Glasgow - pop in and say Hi! You might even get to see Maisie the shop dog!

To Be Continued...

Today is Taylor, the shop's resident computer wiz and general helper's, last day working with us as he jets off for over a month back to Cyprus.

Taylor has come on leaps and bounds in confidence since he started here about 12 weeks ago and has become a real asset to the team in Fat Buddha
Not to worry though, Taylor will be back working with us again in August!

He recently went out and about in Glasgow and shot this photo on his new camera:

Check out some of his favourite things in the shop here

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Recently attended a friends wedding in Skiathos, a lovely lovely island just of the coast of mainland Greece, 25 minutes flying time from Athens.
We flew from Manchester, the drive from Glasgow to Manchester included a stop off at 'The Trafford Centre', we shopped all day and i never bought 1 single thing, bollocks, i did try on a rather fetching Paul Smith jacket, which i may purchase when my weight drops a bit.

The Flight to Athens went Tech, new plane rquired and a 6 hour delay, good start to the day, not.  Athens must be the most tagged city with Graffiti i have ever seen, and not one bit of it was any good, all pretty dire, infact pretty much all rubbish.

The pic below is Nick (Elton John lookalike), hes a great chappy and kept giving me pelters all week, me and Mrs Fat Buddha were seen whizzing round Skiathos all week on the big red Quad bike, 2 big fatties on the machine.

For anyone with a mind to visit Skiathos, there's some info n the Island HERE.

Custom Donnie Dunny

What do you do if you get a duplicate blind box dunny? Well Blak customizes them to add to his and his wife's growing collection. This was once a series 5 blind box dunny and after a good few hours of stripping the original artwork, sculpting, sanding, painting (then stripping the paint because it reacted badly with the modelling clay), and painting again - he created a unique one-off custom dunny based on the creepy rabbit, Frank, from Donnie Darko (one of his favourite films).

Contrary to various model-making blogs and forums, the Montana Gold Silverchrome seems to have worked out pretty nicely on this paint job.

Look out for a couple more of Blak's custom vinyl figures on the blog in future

Denote from Queens, NY

One of our customers today was Denote, all the way from Queens, NY (via Stirling where he's studying at the moment).

He loves his Jordans and was telling me how he used to wear his older brothers ones when he was a kid, until he got caught and his ass kicked! He's old enough to have his own ones now and has got his eyes set on the new Jordan Spizikes in the shop.

He's missing his family and crew back in Queens and wishes he was heading back for the summer and long lazy days on the court (rocking his Jordans of course!). It's also his birthday today, so if you see him around Glasgow say Happy Birthday!.

Thanks for letting us take a pic and we look forward to you coming back to the shop soon.

Happy Birthday Denote!

Vans x Stussy Oxfords

And now somethin' for the Ladies... Here is a first glimpse of girls oxfords from the very great pairing of two iconic brands, Vans and Stussy. Not sure when these hit retail, but there’s a launch event later this month so I’m guessing you’ll see them go on sale in July.
In the meantime, check out in-store and online our current selection of Vans.

My Favourite Things Pt. 3 - Patrick (Paddy)

Continuing on from the first two 'My Favourite Things', I managed to get hold of the elusive Paddy, who is now back at work after some severe tonsilitis!

I got Paddy to pick out some of the things he'll be after next pay day. He threw on some Carhartt Viper Shades and a New Era cap and was looking like an extra Beastie Boy (circa 1988).

Anyway, here's some of his 'wants' from the shop...

* Carhartt Viper Sunglasses (in store only)
* Blackbook Sessions (in store only)
