Music Monday

On Sunday night a couple of us from the store headed out to the Arches to catch SBTRKT's sold out show on their live UK tour.  SBTRKT is a UK based producer/DJ who's self titled album was a real favourite last year.  When performing live as SBTRKT he is joined by singer/producer/collaborator/ band mate Sampha.

The elusive producer who went for a good while without anyone finding out who he was due to his SBTRKT moniker and the fact that he always wears special made tribal masks to cover his face.  The reason for this being that he feels he would rather use anonyimity to let the music do the talking rather than himself as a person.

The live show consists of them playing a whole host of different instruments from acoustic drums, drum pads, sequencers, keyboards and live singing.    I caught the show in Manchesterlast year just as his debut album was released so it was nice to see how their live show had progressed.  It was a really top night and they didn't disappoint.

Music Monday

In 2010 the London record shop and now Label Honest Jon's, known for specialising in reggae, jazz and soul music since 1974,  put out the fanastic African dance music compilation Shangaan Electro: New Wave Dance Music From South Africa.  A compilation of African dance music called Shangaan that was well received by the Global dance culture, by those that heard it.

Over the past year Honest Jon's have released  a series of 12" revisions of the Shangann Electro tracks.  Consisting of different artists remixes of the original Shangaan Electro tracks.  The final installment to be released was MMM and Old Apparatus meet Tsehsa boys.

A final compilation set for the series is set for release on 27 February featuring all of the revisions together on in one 2 x CD format.  Some of the artists featured are Oni Ayhun, Ricardo Villalobos, Actress, Hype Williams plus many more.  The compilation is called Shangaan shake and I am mad excited about it.

Hottie of the Week! - Elisha Cuthbert

This week the Hottie title goes to Canadian born actress Elisha Cuthbert.  She has starred in a range of movies including Old School and The Girl Next Door.  But nowadays she is probably most well known for her role alongside Kiefer Sutherland as Kim Bauer in the long running action series 24.

She currently stars in the ABC series Happy Endings which, now in its second series, is doing really well and has some comparisons to a new more up to date Friends.  It's pretty funny too.

Here's to you Elisha Cuthbert.

The End Book - Back in Stock

The End Book is back in stock, having sold out the first time, we have it back, its a great read and in its day was the bollocks, you can but it HERE.

Jesus this has taken a long time. 20 years in fact. If you've never seen The End now's your chance to find out about a unique chapter in British publishing history. Long before casual was ever really recognised as a youth cult a group of Liverpudlians created a home-made fanzine capturing life on the streets of their city, the local music and political scenes, and not forgetting the terraces. It was very funny, very roughly laid out and very popular. Its greatest champion was John Peel who would regularly name check the magazine on his Radio One show and also invited the editors onto national television to discuss their cult fanzine.

Hardcore  fans of The End  have been badgering the former editors to bring out a best of for decades. Now Sabotage Times and adidas have come together to help them finally produce one volume with every issue in it. The book will include every Ins and Outs list, every music interview, every letters page, every one of the classic End illustrations and interviews with Billy Bragg and The Clash amongst many others. In addition to all 20 issues there'll also be a new Ins & Outs list, the memories of the three editors, and various other articles from contributors and admirers.
