One of Glasgow's biggest festivals returns again this year, from Friday the 1st June to Sunday 24th June the party begins for the West End Festival 2012 . A festival that started out small in 1996 has now grown to major festival, much of it self produced by the talented and creative individuals that live in Glasgow. The event which started off as a one week affair which featured a small theatre event and paintings on railings amongst other things has steadily grown into quite the festival. Now running over three weeks and with a huge variety of events on offer, last year boasted over 650 including a series of 23 music chamber concerts. What's more many of them are free. This years event looks to be bigger than ever featuring a whole array of different events to choose from. Music Monday - Blink 182

Image
Today is my first Monday shift in what feels like forever. I've noticed that Monday's blog posts are usually reserved for Music Monday and today will be no different in that respect. However it will be different in the respect that today will be all about my favourite band Blink 182. For me hearing blink-182 changed everything about me, it changed my musical taste, the clothes I wore and the friends I had. I think for a lot of people my age they done the same. The band started out as a 3 piece in California with original drummer Scott Raynor. They released two albums (Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch) and a few EP's (Flyswatter and Buddha) with Scott. Their big break came when the recorded their first album wit current drummer Travis Barker. Enema of the State changed how the band were perceived and burst into the mainstream. The band were best friends who loved making music as could be seen from Mark Hoppus' and Tom DeLonges' stage presence and constant jokes. The w

Summer Festivals

Image
As the sun has decided to come out for a bit over here in Scotland it has really started getting us hyped about the up and coming summer festival season. It's only about two weeks till Scotland plays host to it's first festival Rockness! This being the case we thought we would look into a few other festivals held further afield that we are pretty hyped about. 1. Sonar - Barcelona 14th, 15th and 16th June - Since 1994 Sonar has been celebrating advanced music and media throughout various venues in Barcelona. It is a real pioneering festival with an artistic programme that is divided between activities at Sonar by Day which showcases new talent and live shows and Sonar by Night which presents the headline artists. Sonar by Day is held right in the centre of Barcelona while Sonar by Night is held on the outskirts in a massive airport hangover. Having been there myself I can confidently say it was one of the best festival experiences of my life, and its full of Glaswegians. This

Palladium Boots

Image
In store now we have Palladium Boots, the classic French hat was founded in 1920 as a company that started out creating specialist tires for air crafts. Their advanced tires that were made by layering canvas bands undrneath vulcanised rubber soon ende up on the majority of Europe's aircrafts.   In 1947 Palladium put this same idea and expertise that was used in their tires to footwear and the resukt was the Pampa Boot. A boot that was renowned for its comfort, funcionality and durability so much so that it was adopted by the French Foreign legion. Check out their series of Urban Exploration videos - This video sees the brands front man Pharrell Williams explore Tokyo after the tragedy of the 3/11 earthquake. Cut to modern day and the comfortable, durable and funcional qualities that the brand stands for are still there with a more modern style and they look great. These qualities make them the ideal choice of footwear for the explorer in all of us, that still like to ma

Music Monday - Notorious B.I.G.

Image
With today's date, May 21st being the birthday of now deceased hip-hop legend the Notorious B.I.G. (also known as Biggie Smalls) we thought it only right we dedicate this weeks Music Monday to him. Biggie who was raised in Brooklyn, New York became a keyplayer in the East Coast hi-hop scene after the release of his debut album Ready to Die in 1994. His success and ability as a rapper and lyricist helped put him and New York back on the map for hip-hop in a time when it consisted mainly of East coast artists. This led on to a West Coast/East Coast divide and a feud between the rappers from the major record labels Death Row and Bad Boy Records, the former included Tupac Shakur a former associate of Biggie's. This feud grew to such an extent that both Tupac Shakur and Biggie were murdered in drive by shootings a few years apart from each other (1995 and 1997). Biggie's murder case to this day still remains unsolved. Hailed as one of the greatest rapper of a
