New Banksy in LA - Better Out Than In

Image
A new piece of work by British street artist Banksy has appeared in Los Angeles. Titled Better Out Than In , the piece uses the surrounding environment to depict a young graffiti artist throwing up flowers. The English artist has remained rather quiet since his last piece right before London’s Olympics shown below. The piece seems to allude to an upcoming series or show of the same name, judging by the text via his website . Details are few at the moment but we’re sure you'll hear all about it soon enough

Going Out - Drone with Richard Fearless at The Berkeley Suite

Image
DJ and co-founder of Death In Vegas Richard Fearless has been busy with his great bi-monthly club night Drone at The Berkeley Suite in Glasgow, and tonight (Fri 27th Sept) see's him step behind the turntables once again. Having emerged during the earliest throes of Britpop as something of a musical anomaly, Death In Vegas have continued to confound expectations ever since. Formed in 1994 as a vehicle for Richard Fearless and then co-conspirator Steve Hellier's genre crossing experiments, Death In Vegas have maintained a high degree of quality rather than churning out an endless stream of continually inferior but prolific records. With Tim Holmes having replaced Hellier, 1999's second long player The Contino Sessions and its successor Scorpio Rising brought about mainstream recognition and commercial success, album number four Satan's Circus took an even more disparate route into Germanic territories and ultimately, remains their "lost classic".

On their return to Glasgow, they've brought along special guest KRL, who, in his first time in Glasgow, is keen to match the boys energy with his hip hop, soul and disco inspired set. Music Monday - Elvis Costello and The Roots!

Image
The good folks over at NPR have just released on us a first listen to one of the most interesting musical collaborations of the year, the new album 'Wise Up Ghost' from Elvis Costello and The Roots! After a meeting with hip hop's most exciting live band as a guest on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon', Elvis Costello began recording with The Roots in a series of experimental sessions which eventually spanned a year. The sound of the album has already drawn comparisons to the soulful and funky sounds of early Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes but with added hip hop basslines and the literary brilliance of Mr Costello weaving itself amongst the cinematic sounds. Collaborations of this nature often force the very best out of musicians and songwriters, with both coming from very different musical backgrounds and attempting to create a cohesive collaborative project, in this case it works beautifully! Head over to the NPR player to check it out!

Pharell Williams and Daniel Arsham Collaboration

Image
Shown above is the first glimpse of the collaboration between Pharrell Williams and artist Daniel Arsham . Known for his beautiful sculptural work, Arsham re-created the Casio MT-500 keyboard in collaboration with Pharrell. The keyboard was the first instrument that Pharrell ever made music with. Arsham gave it his signature look, adding signs of use and beautiful details to it. It looks like the keyboard was created in several colors.   The exhibition opens on September 11th at the Standard hotel in East Village New York, but no one knows if the work will be for sale yet.
